Active Schools – Physical Education

All pupils are provided with 60 minutes timetabled PE every week.

Curriculum Strands

All classes are taught at least 5 different PE strands every year and 4th classes also are taught aquatics.

Gymnastics

Our teachers work together to strengthen their delivery of a different PE strand every year. This year we are focusing on Gymnastics ’. This year we had Gymnastics coaches come in to teach us gymnastics skills for 10 weeks. Pupils are developing their skills relating to different kinds of movements such as hopping, jumping, balancing, rolling, headstands, handstands and cartwheels. They are learning how to combine these skills into a sequence of movements and how to complete the movements in a safe manner. Classes have teamed up together to practice their skills and share gymnastics routines they have put together.

Games

Below are some photographs of the pupils participating in Tennis, Table Tennis, Rounders and Gaelic Football.

This year we introduced table tennis during our Fun Friday ‘Table Tennis Takeover’.

This year we have been working really hard on our GAA skills. We are really enjoying our camogie and gaelic blitzes in the local park ‘The Bogies’. Our coach Thomas, from our local GAA club, comes to our school every Thursday to help us develop our skills.

Athletics

The ‘Daily Mile’ is a part of the school day for all classes.

Fifth and sixth class pupils also take part in the ‘Marathonkids’ initiative run by Dublin City Council.

This year we traveled to the Morton Stadium in Santry to participate in the final mile event with lots of other schools.

Each year pupils participate in the local ‘Schools Cross Country Running Competition’ held in the local park ‘The Bogies’. Well done to everyone who participated and congratulations to our medal winners!

Fun events such as the ‘Reindeer Run’ are enjoyed by all!
