GAA
GAA plays a huge role in our school community, bringing teamwork, skill, and school spirit to life. With the help of our fantastic coach Thomas, students learn the skills of Gaelic football and hurling in a fun and supportive way. Thomas encourages everyone to take part, try their best, and enjoy the games while building confidence and fitness. Training sessions are always full of energy, teamwork, and laughter. GAA in our school helps students stay active, make friends, and take pride in representing our community.
X-Country Competition
Cross country running is a popular and rewarding activity in our school. Students train hard to build their stamina, strength, and determination, the “daily mile” helps us with this. Whether running around the school grounds or representing our school at local events, everyone shows great effort and team spirit. It’s wonderful to see students encouraging one another and celebrating their achievements together. Cross country running helps build resilience, confidence, and a love for staying active and healthy!
FAI Primary 5’s
The FAI 5-a-Side Competition is an exciting event that our school looks forward to each year. It gives students the chance to represent our school, showcase their soccer skills, and enjoy the thrill of teamwork and competition. The matches are fast-paced and full of energy, with everyone giving their best on the pitch. Players show great sportsmanship, determination, and pride while supporting one another throughout the tournament. Taking part in the FAI 5-a-Side helps our students develop confidence, fitness, and a real love for the game.
Active Slogan Competition
We work together as a school to find and agree an Active School slogan each year.
We had a school wide slogan/poster competition. There were amazing entries from all classes and age groups.

Have a look at some previous entries in this video.
Active School Committee
Our school has established an “Active” committee.
The Active School Committee plays an important role in making sure our school stays fun, healthy, and active. Each class has a representative who brings ideas, suggestions, and feedback to the committee, ensuring everyone’s voice is heard. Together, the committee plans events, challenges, and activities like Active Week, sports tournaments, and fun fitness games. They encourage students to take part, stay motivated, and enjoy being active every day. The committee helps make our school a lively and energetic place for everyone.
‘What Clubs are you in?’ survey
Senior pupils conducted a ‘What clubs are you in?’ survey to find out about the physical activity opportunities in the local community we take part in.

Clubs and Organisations
We partner with clubs and organisations in the local community providing activities, training and coaching in our school.
The GAA
All classes participate in a term of Gaelic training during the year. Classes are given tuition in basic Gaelic skills and work on their kicking, passing, shooting and defending skills through games and activities. Other classes learn some basic Camogie skills.
Tennis Coaching
Some classes have the opportunity to play tennis during the school year and it is a most enjoyable experience for everyone. They learn ball handling skills and striking skills.
Marathonkids
Fifth and Sixth Classes take part in ‘Marathonkids‘, an 8 week running programme where they run a full marathon. That means we run 26.2 miles! During this time we also learn about the physical, mental, social and community benefits of exercise. In the past the finale saw the students running their last mile and completing the marathon on the running track in Santry with lots of other schools. Last year we ran our final mile in the Bogies. All participants receive a t-shirt and medal to commemorate their achievement.
